Admission to Nursing

First-year students applying for admission to the nursing major have special admission criteria in addition to the undergraduate admission requirements. A program rich with tradition and expertise, Capital has been educating baccalaureate prepared nurses since 1950. Nursing is one of the most competitive programs at Capital due to high quality and demand. Capital University nursing students are successful on the National Council Licensures Examination: Registered Nurse (NCLEX). Over the past five years, the average pass rate for Capital students was consistent with state and national averages.

Capital’s nursing program is affiliated with more than 20 hospitals and health care agencies, as well as 80 community health organizations in Columbus. Capital admits students directly into the nursing program. Many other colleges require you to enter in pre-nursing and apply for admission into the program after you are enrolled at the school. At Capital, your application is evaluated for nursing while you are in high school. If you gain admission to the nursing major, you will begin coursework designed to lay the foundation for your nursing career from day one on campus.

First-Year Nursing Requirements*

Direct Admit

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Pre-Nursing

• Any student that doesn't meet the requirements to be directly admitted to the School of Nursing at Capital University will be accepted into the pre-nursing program as long as they meet admission requirements to Capital University.
• Students admitted to pre-nursing will be notified clearly of their options within the School of Nursing.
